Overview

Due to its profile, our Doctoral School tends to fill a gap since this is the first doctoral program in Hungary. Its training and research curricula focus straightforwardly on business and management issues of small and medium-sized companies and family businesses.

We offer an educational and training program based on applied sciences from which those interested in academic careers, those associated with everyday economic practice, and those with MBA degrees may benefit.

Our students accomplishing the doctoral program will acquire theoretical, methodological, and practical knowledge and skills that allow them to pursue applied research, analyse entrepreneurial, economic, and financial phenomena and processes with a scientific background and solve problems in the world of science, the real economy and the public sphere.

Please be advised that entrance interviews will be held from May 2024. Detailed information will be provided later on.

Those who start their studies as fee-paying students cannot be supported by BBU for a later scholarship application. This provision covers those full-funded scholarship opportunities which are offered by the Hungarian government.

Programme structure

To obtain all 240 credit points, the PhD student carries out the following activities:

They study subjects, conduct research, publish articles and conference papers, and teach under the guidance of the scientific leader. Ten per cent of the credit points can be obtained through directed teaching in a Bachelor Program.

The doctoral program is divided into two stages: (1) the training-research phase (4 semesters) and (2) the research dissertation phase (4 semesters). Two hundred forty credit points are required to complete the program (for the absolutorium).

In the first stage, the student focuses on his/her studies and research and performs publishing activities. The student completes his/her studies with a complex exam. Every six months, the student must submit his/her research results in a written essay that he/she also has to present orally.

In the second stage, the publication activity comes to the fore. Publication requirements include at least two conference attendances and four journal articles, as detailed in the training plan.

Career opportunities

Our students accomplishing the doctoral program will acquire theoretical, methodological, and practical knowledge and skills that allow them to pursue applied research, analyse entrepreneurial, economic and financial phenomena and processes with a scientific background and solve problems in the world of science, the real economy and the public sphere. With the knowledge and skills obtained, our graduates may become successful as highly skilled and innovative analysts, managers or entrepreneurs.
